About Lucy
Lucy and her two sisters grew up in a loving, supportive, and fun home in Mobile, AL. Her parents are both Mobile natives so the constant company of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and dozens of cousins was part of life. Family gatherings and the action in the kitchen are happy memories. She liked to be in the kitchen, "staying out of the way" from a very early age. She learned, like most of us, how to cook from her mom and grandparents, along with cooking shows on TV. Lucy's other interest was the grocery business. She started working in one of her family's grocery stores at age 9. When she was not at school, she wanted to be scanning groceries. Lucy enjoyed working in the stores and in the corporate office after school and during the summers. Her plan has always been to work at Greer's.

After high school graduation, Lucy attended Auburn University to study business. She was content with cooking to remain a hobby. By that time, she had over a decade of at home kitchen experience, thousands of hours of cooking shows in her head, and hundreds of “researched and cooked recipes”. During her senior year at Auburn, her parents encouraged her to go to culinary school after graduation. This idea had not crossed her mind. Lucy was not interested in another four-year program and found an 18-month curriculum at a culinary school in Birmingham, AL. During culinary school she worked in three different culinary sectors: Frank Stitt’s Highlands Bar & Grill (a fine dining restaurant), with a small independent caterer, and at a specialty grocery store. Her experiences in Birmingham were so valuable to her culinary development.

Lucy moved home to Mobile in 2010 with two degrees: Business Administration and Culinary. Upon arrival at Greer's, she was tasked with supervising the Deli/Bakery Department, starting Greer’s Catering, and cooking on local televised cooking segments. She was able to use her food knowledge and training immediately. She quickly became the Corporate Spokesperson, appearing on television and radio commercials, and promoting Greer’s in all public capacities. Shortly after returning to Mobile, Lucy and her now husband, Spiro, became engaged and then married in 2012. She was working full-time during the day, and the Catering demand on nights and weekends continued to increase. At the time their twins were born, there was no one to pass the baton onto in the Catering operation so she had to call it quits. Thankfully, she was able to continue working directly with food in the Deli/Bakeries and during her cooking segments.

After 15 years at Greer’s, Lucy has taken on much more responsibility in all areas of the business, including the resurgence of Greer’s Catering (thanks to a remarkable team). But the highlight of her career is the connections made with people, particularly customers and those she works with. These connections are made possible by food. Greer’s is rooted in bringing families and food together. She is grateful for the opportunity she has had over the years to share her family’s business and herself with all of you. She appreciates all of those that encouraged her to write a cookbook. Lucy hopes it brings you as much joy as the years of your support has given her.

Lucy is Greer's Corporate Spokesperson, VP of Deli/Bakery/Catering Operations and oversees IT/Accounting/Store Design. She and her husband, Spiro, live in Mobile with their twin boys, Nick and Jack, and their daughters, Elle and Mary Barton.
